I slept too much today again...

My body is weird like this. If I am ill then I completely shut down and recuperate. So with the eye injury and the pieces of metal still in my body plus allergies, I have been a total wreck. My body just wants to shut down and repair itself.

I woke up around 9 to get ready to eat lunch with a friend and my brother called me with some bad news. I don't want to get into it because it's some personal business. It may be nothing or it may be something. But I had to cancel the lunch so I could talk to my brother. After all of that drama I would up feeling tired and was back in bed by 12:30pm. I slept until 6pm and then went to Wal-Mart to buy cat food.

Right now I just wanted to blog and then I'm gonna sleep again. I have an appointment with the eye doctor in the morning. Wish me luck!

I almost forgot. I want to wish Ricky Williams a great season with the Toronto Argonauts. He may be a pot smoking oddball but I like him.

I got a lot of sleep today. I think I got too much sleep. My allergies have been acting up and my eye has been a bit sore. I can see some light in my right eye. I guess that's a good sign. When I look at the sun with my eye closed I see a kaleidoscope of reds and oranges. I guess that means that the blood in my eye is going away.

Today was my friend Kathleen's 22nd birthday. We went to Brewster's for Ice Cream this evening and hung out. We have a long history together. We dated for two years. She's the winner of the worst breakup ever award too. I won't get into the details but I was definitely a zinger! I don't know how but we're still friends and she's been a real help the past couple days.

My aunt collected newspaper clippings of the shooting from a bunch of major newspapers. I got to sit down tonight and read most of them. For the most part they got some of the story right. But of course when they quoted an Eagle, it became rather outrageous. But hey, Dale can tell some really good lies. That seems to be what he's good at.

Tomorrow I work again. I hope to finish my shift too. I really want to get back to a normal life as soon a possible. My parents wouldn't want me lolly-gagging around or milking my injury.

We missed church this morning too. I was upset but we really needed the rest.

I'm not allowed to post on my blog anymore. Police orders. So I thought I'd give the Myspace thing a try.

It's kinda late here but I couldn't sleep. I was thinking of my parents. So I mustered up enough courage to take out the video camera and watch some video. I did alright. It was good to see them again.

The first video was of my mom holding a goose egg. A baby goose was coming out and she was helping it. The second video was of my mom and dad cleaning out the wash house and my dad was describing all the antiques that we found. It's totally my parents in their element. You don't get better footage of my parents than this.

I did minor surgery tonight. I have some shrapnel under my skin and I decided to cut it out. I'm not a cutter but it was good to get some of that crap out of my body.

I worked at Cracker Barrel today. I didn't work my full shift because I'm still a bit weak and my eye was starting to bother me. I work again Monday.

I should try to get some sleep. Church comes pretty early in the morning.

Before I go, I wanted to share an idea with all of you. A friend of mine thinks I should write a book about my time on the farm. I think it's a good idea. I think I'll start Monday on writing it. I'll start from when I said I'd move from SC to WV. Trust me, it's an interesting story. My parents and I didn't click as soon as I moved to the farm. It took a few months of adjustment and some high tension days for us to get where we were. But it was an excellent journey. One that I will never forget and always look upon in fondness. I learned so much about my parents in the time I was there.

I wore my dad's favorite church shirt today. It's his baby blue dress shirt. My dad had always been a suit and tie kinda guy on Sunday's but when we started going to South Ridge he started to relax. My dad got up in the morning and always complained he couldn't find his dress pants or socks. Finally my mom and I bought him a nice blue shirt. He liked it so much he'd wear his nice jeans and that shirt. Plus he'd get up in the morning and let the ducks, geese and alpacas out and he ran late a lot. But I digress...The point is that I wore his shirt to church today. It was nice to have a part of him with me this morning.

I can honestly say that the worship music didn't sound right today. I know it's because my mom wasn't there. It's gonna take time to get used to her not up on stage. I know Debbie will step up and take my mom's place. She has a beautiful voice.

Today has been the most physically uncomfortable day for me too. My injuries for some reason have caused me trouble. I've taken some pain killers (which I don't like taking) to ease the pain. I'll probably sleep all day now.

So on that note, I'm gonna lay down. My head is killing me. Plus I didn't get a lot of sleep last night.

Take care everyone.

I don't know what to say....

Thank you to everyone who expressed consern for me and my family. It means a great deal to me and my brother. We really appreciate it.

I just wanted to take a time out and let all of you know that. I don't know how often I will be posting but I will make an effort to keep in touch. We have a lot to deal with and I know our days ahead are gonna be difficult.

Continue to pray for us. And again....thank you

Return of the shin splints

My shins hurt. That means only one thing...shin splints are returning. I figured this would happen. It's been a while since I've done this much of a workload on my legs. I remember getting these in high school and it was quite painful. The only way to get rid of them is to run it out. So guess whose going to be going through some intense pain for the next couple weeks?

I got the CD's I ordered today. I've been jamming to M/A/R/R/S - Pump up the volume, Mighty Dub Katz - Magic Carpet Ride, The KLF - Doctorin' the Tardis, and Was (not Was) - Dad I'm in Jail. Very good stuff. Very good!

I found out my final grades this semester. I got all A's and one B. The B was in Spanish. So, I made Dean's list but not President's list. I'm a bit upset with myself because I think I should have pushed myself harder in Spanish. I would like to be elated over my grades but deep in my heart of hearts I know that Spanish grade should have been an A.

I helped mow the lawn today. I mowed the area where we keep the ducks and geese. Tomorrow if it doesn't rain I plan on getting the weed wacker and trimming around the fences and the Hilton. That's if it doesn't rain.

Our wonderful neighbor decided to be cute today. We went to leave for dinner and there was a tree branch laid across the drive. We had to get out and move it. It's been quiet since the fight in March. Today was the first time Dale Eagle has done anything to even acknowledge we exist.

Reason 158 why Bob Slatt likes the NFL Network Channel. Miami Dolphins Cheerleader tryout documentary!!!!

The season finale of Prison Break was tonight. Guess what? They broke out of prison!!!!!

24 was great as usual. The Jack Bauer phrase of the night was "Don't give me another reason to put a bullet in your head."

I'm tired. Got 400's to run tomorrow.

Happy Mother's Day!!!!

Except for the rain it has been a good Mother's day so far...

We went to church this morning and of course had a great time worshipping God. Everyone seemed a bit out of it but once we starting singing then everyone kinda woke up. It was wierd because everyone in the congregation seemed half asleep. I guess we all have had a long week. After services we passed out flowers to all the moms, and boy do we have a lot of them. Our church consists of mostly late 20 early 30 families that breed like rabbits. I've never seen a nursery so packed in my life!!! But it makes my job at VBS this summer even more fun!!! Of course after services we all had to stand in the back and talk about My Name Is Earl and The Office. It's becoming a Sunday ritual.

After services we grabbed a quick bite to eat at Arby's. I gave my mom the cards from me and my dad. She liked them a lot. My dad went mushy card and I went funny card. It was a good mix. We're gonna make my mom dinner today too.

I went the gym to do some work out workthrough. It's kinda like a practice workout. I have some new exercises to do and I wanted to make sure I did them correctly before I start full swing tomorrow morning. Everything felt good. I just wanted to make sure I got the concentration down.
The coolest thing I did was go to East/West field in Fairmont. It's the local High School's field and it's awesome. It's inside this old stone walled stadium. It kinda reminds me of George Daniel Field in Lorain and Lakewood Stadium. The track was redone so it's ripe for the sprinting!!! It has a certain energy to the place that makes you want to excel. I like that. What's even cooler is that my dad played football in that stadium.
My dad used to do a road run around the area. I plan on doing a similar run but from East/West Stadium to the Fairmont State campus. I haven't timed it but I need a good road run that will push me. This has hills and everything so I thing I have found a challenging route.

Tonight I'm gonna relax and enjoy my evening. Gotta go to bed early so I can work out. Then I will spend the rest of my day helping my dad. We're gonna put in the water line. We have to rent a ditch witch so we can did the ditches. Plus we're gonna reroute the creeks on the farm so that they don't flood or erode the hillside. I have to contact a cable compay to see about getting broadband up on the farm. We can run the wire with the water line which will give us access. Right now we just have dial-up and it is horrible to run a business on.

Gotta go. Dinner calls!!!

Enjoy your Mother's Day:-)

We have new additions to the family!!!

Today I went into the Hilton and found three baby ducks. I brought them in and put them in our incubator so they will be safe. We lost a lot of ducks this past winter and it's good to have three new ones. I do believe there will not be another duck like Godzilla though. He was my favorite.

Today was my first official day of vacation. I went to bed early and woke up around 10am. I guess I was tired. I spend most of my day washing clothes, doing dishes and scanning my notes still. It frees up so much room too. My other projects are to put all VHS tapes on to DVD. I should have time to do that this week. I have so many tapes though.

My parents went to an Alpaca show this weekend and I was home alone all day with the animals. Things went well and they are getting used to me. Montana even let me pet him for a little while. I guess if you feed them then they're friends for life. haha.

Well, I'm gonna get to bed. Got church in the morning....

As of 8:37 this morning I am officially done with Spring Semester 2006!!!!!

I am so glad this semester is over. I can say that it wasn't the classes that bothered me but all the outside influences that got to me. Too much going on here on the farm and other stuff too. But I have all summer to take care of these things which is nice.

Now I start the process of scanning all my notes and putting them on disk. I do this so I can keep my notes for future reference and I don't have a large pile of papers and tests in a file cabinet. I don't return my books for money either. If I'm gonna get ten bucks for a one hundred and fifty dollar book, then I'll just keep it, thank you very much!

I'm still in that "I have to study" phase right now. I haven't actually started relaxing yet. I hope to do that once the summer movie season starts. I love me some summer movies.

A Really Rainy Day...

I couldn't sleep for the life of me last night. I kept waking up every other hour. I officially got up around 6am and spend until 9am going over my notes for Spanish. I took my test at 10am and was done by 10:30. It was pretty easy. I know I missed some stuff but I'm sure I got a decent grade. I'm quit proud of myself. I'll make sure to attack Spanish II with more vigor.

Funny thing is, when I got to college this morning it was 70 degrees and sunny. By the time I got home around 11am the dark clouds had rolled in and it poured something horrible. It hasn't rained this hard in months. The temperature dropped into the high 50's and it's windy. So what do you do when the weather is this bad? TAKE A NAP!!!!! YAY!!!

So for the rest of my day I spend studying for my Marketing test tomorrow. I'm not looking foreward to this test at all. It' s one of those classes where no matter how much you study you still make a C in it. If it wasn't for the group projects we have in class I don't think I'd have a decent grade. It sucks to know that my GPA is going to drop a little bit over silly class like this. At least now I know never to take this professor ever again.

The season finale of Smallville, My Name is Earl and The Office was tonight. Usually Smallville comes on at 8pm, Earl at 9 and Office at 9:30. Well, for some reason Earl came on at 8:20pm and the office at 9:20. So that left me and my dad wigging out over Smallville. We record Earl and Office on DVDR and then put them on DVD. Unfortunately our Dish Net DVDR only records one show at a time. The final solution was to watch Smallville upstairs and let Earl and Office record downstairs in the living room. It was kinda funny because at Smallville commercial I would run down the stairs and watch Earl until it was time for Smallville again. I'm such a Thursday night TV junkie. I got a workout though.

This was Spanish Exam Day...

I got up in the morning and turned in my term paper. I was pretty relieved to get that monkey off my back. Now let's just hope and pray that Dr. Ryan doesn't think it stinks.

I spent a majority of today studying for my Spanish exam. I'm proud of myself because I have had this fear of learning Spanish. I always feel overwhelmed and behind whenever I take Spanish and I just drop it. Well, I did pretty darn good this semester. I must say that this is yet another academic obstacle that I have overcome. BRING ON SPANISH II!!!!!

I did take a time out from studying for an important meeting. My family and I got together with Pastor Seth for our membership class follow up. Now we're officially members of South Ridge Church. I'm not one for church membership but this was a formality that I was happy to complete. Abraham Lincoln never joined a denomination. I guess in a way I have still stayed true to that. I didn't become a member of a denomination but rather made a committment of responsibility to a group of believers that comprise South Ridge Church.

South Ridge Church is part of a movement called Great Commission Churches. What I like about GCA churches is that they're not focused on building large Wal-Mart churches. The goal is that when the church gets to a certain size, then the church splits and makes another church. I find this to be the most biblical and effective way to achieve Sigma 6 when it comes to church effectiveness.

The topic I did enjoy talking to Seth about was the topic of Youth Pastors. See, I detest the position of Youth Pastor. I find them to be nothing but glorified baby sitters. My other knock about YP's is that the construct itself takes kids away from the actual body of Christ and creates a sub-culture where kids are provided watered down Christianity wrapped up in a fun post-modern entertaining package. This does nothing for the kids. When they turn 18 they leave the church or go to college and find another clique to plug into.
Seth shared my conserns. He brought up some different solutions that churches had done to reform the Youth Pastor position. He said that our focus as a church is to cater to the kids in a way that brings the parents involved. So the focus of discipleship isn't the Youth Pastor to the kids but the parents to the kids.
To me that makes sense. The Youth Pastor shouldn't be teaching what parents themselves should be teaching their kids. Instead of disipling individual kids the goal is to disciple families. This puts the focus on the family and church and makes the Youth Pastor a mediator of sorts and not the primary focus of teen Christian activity.

My mom sings on the worship team so when we were done with our meeting my dad and I stuck around and watched them practice. They sound really good.

I finally made it home and studied for a few hours before I went to bed. I did take time out to talk with Kathleen on the phone. She's finally going to go to college and she needed some advice on where to apply to college what to do. Considering I've been in college longer than I was in secondary school I am a wealth of knowledge when it comes to college bureaucracy:-) But I'm a SENIOR NOW!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA..

Seniors rule!!!

It's finally done!!!!

I did it! I finished my paper. It took forever but it's complete. I'm never satisfied with any of my final papers but I don't have time to bicker about it. I MUST turn it in tomorrow. I decided to post my paper for anyone who wants to read it. I am posting it in a separate blog entry so that I won't bore anyone. The topic is "Is Islam and Democracy compatible: A Case Study on Iraq"

I really didn't do much except for working on the paper and going to the gym. It was in the high seventies and sunny. I worked out and then took a break by hanging out with Andy (a trainer) and commenting on the wonderful looking women that were walking around the gym. Andy is gonna run with me on Fridays. That will give me someone to challenge me.
I went up to the Bridgeport High School afterward. I ran some 40 meter sprints first. Then I went on the football field and ran some 100 yard sprints and some ladders. Ladders are when you run 10 yards and back peddle 5. You continue to do this until you reach the other end zone. Bridgeport H.S. football field is artificial turf. It's pretty cool to run on and it really takes the pressure off my calves.

I didn't get a lot of studying done today...

I wound up helping my dad clean out the wash house today. The cellar of the wash house has canned foot from the 40's in there. So we had to go through all the cans and throw out a lot of rotten food. Yuk! The we had to clean the cellar out to make room for a bunch of other cans and glass containers. It took most of the day but we got it done.
My dad got the weed eater to work today. It quit working last summer. It's one of those nice expensive jobs that runs on gas so it better start working again! All it needed was a new spark plug. We weed wacked around the house and steps and then I took the pressure spayer and sprayed off the vynal siding.

I was gonna start studying around 8pm but I took time out to watch two shows at one time. The first was on the NFL network. They were showing in it's entirity the 1981 NFC Championship game with the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys. I had never seen the game and it was kinda cool to watch a green Joe Montana almost blow the game. I'm used to Joe Montana the greatest quarterback ever. Well, I guess we all start somewhere. It was also cool to watch Tony Dorsett run the football and Tom Landry coach the Cowboys. I think all coaches should wear a suit on the sidelines. Tom Landry was a great NFL general and a dymanic Christian. He's greatly missed.
The other show I was watching was Prison Break. The show to me is like American Idol. You only watch it when it matters. So this episode they were "Breaking Out!!!!" Duh! I think it would be a better show if it was like Pinky and the Brain. One of the cell mates says "Gee Dave. Whatta we gonna do tonight?" Dave says "The same thing we do every night Johnny! Try to BREAK OUT OF PRISON!!!" Every episode is a break out. hee hee

I should study. I really should. I don't know why I'm so adamant about doing everything except study.

05-07-06

I almost forgot.

I talked to someone I didn't think I would talk to ever again yesterday. That would be Kathleen!!! It started when I found her tax forms in one of my boxes. I thought it would be the responsible thing to send them back to her. Fortunate enough I had her number still memorized and I called and left a message. She called me back. I wasn't expecting that. All in all it was a pleasant conversation. She sounds like she's doing a lot better.

Now for today.

I went to church this morning. I didn't have to do a skit in kid's church so I was pretty excited to be in the auditorium with the big people. There's just so much Veggie Tale'd version of bible stories you can handle without pulling hair out. We learned a new song this moring and that was fun! Pastor Seth was spot ON as usual. I enjoyed today's service so much I was actually compelled to clap! I was compelled. I didn't say that I did.

I went to the library and did some studying. I got a lot done today on that end. By Thursday I should be ready for my last 2 exams. That's the thing about college. You can't cram. You have to study over a period of time.

I went to be early. I woke up around midnight and I decided I'd put an entry into my blog. I like blogging because it coincides with a level of consisitancy in my life. When I'm blogging I tend to be more focused and contemplative of my days and how I spend my time.

I skipped small group though. Bad Bob!

SPRING CLEANING!!!!

Oh my gosh! I have so much spring cleaning to do. I have boxes upon boxes upon boxes of stuff. Most of it is books though. When I had my apartment in South Carolina people would be so impressed at the massive bookshelves full of books. I can honestly say that I read them all too. See, I don't like to go to the library and check out books. I like to own them so if I need some bit of information it's right there in my library. I must say that I have an extensive complation of books on political thought, religion and philosophy that would rival Thomas Jefferson's library. True dat!

The other boxes are football cards, research and notes from my classes. I don't throw any item away for use in later research. Hopefully this summer I'll be able to scan it all and put it onto disk to save up space.

Now I have to find a nice cozy place for all of it though. I've gotten the bookshelves out. I've gotten one file cabinet full. I may need to buy another.

My dad and I went over to Gary Sr's house. We sat down and looked over all the deeds on who owns what as far as property. We were able to come to an agreement and Gary Sr. realized that we own the property in question. This week my dad and Gary jr. will finalize the deed which will transfer the property that Gary jr. needs for a right of way. It was a pleasant experience.
Now if we can only have that kind of experience with Gary Sr's brother Dale? It's been kinda quiet since he was arrested. We don't hear a peep. That may be a good thing but if it involves Dale then it means he's just abiding his time until he can come out with both barrell's loaded (no pun inteded).

But it's quiet for now. Let's enjoy the calm before the storm shall we?

Happy Cinco De Mayo!!!!

I'm so glad I checked my WebCT. I got an A on my test and I don't have to take the exam!!! Yay!

I did go to the college today because I had some business to take care of. I needed to get information on putting together a 9/11 memorial service at Fairmont State. I guess they had one before and it didn't go well. But when you get a bunch of socialist America haters to do the memorial then you're gonna have problems. I don't plan on letting that happen again. The people who died on 9/11 deserve better.

I also inquired into Sean Hannity or Ann Coulter coming to speak. Both are pretty expensive. I'll probably settle in Robert Novack or Bill Bennett.

Got a busy summer coming up. Much to plan!!!!

5-04-06

Happy Cinco De Mayo's Eve!!!

My presentation went well yesterday. I spoke for almost half an hour and then did a Q&A for another half an hour. Now if I can just get this blasted paper written!!!

I'm pretty sure I got an A on my test. If I did then I don't have to take the final and I have an A in the course.

I had no Spanish class today so I'm just gonna veg today. My dad is spending the whole entire day in the wash house. That's where he's gonna put his tools. I would help him but I would just get in the way. Besides, he knows what he wants and where to put it.

I know! I know! It's been a while...

I've been quite busy though. Mostly boring school stuff. But I have time to write. Thank goodness.

I got up at 5am so I could be at the college to do research on my paper. I have to give a presentation today on it and I want to make sure I'm sharp. I even shaved!

I also have my State & Local Government test today. I'm gonna study for that one too! I've already had 2 quizzes over the material so a majority of it is review. I hope to do quite well on the test.

My day is going to be very long. I probably won't be done with all of this until 6pm tonight. I will be sleeping quite soundly tonight I'll tell you that much.
