Road Trip to South Dakota
I got up at 6am to begin my trip. I had a few bills to pay and some errands to run before I got on the road. I was able to finish everything around noon. I left Lorain around 1pm.
I made good time getting through Ohio. There wasn’t a lot of traffic and the new 70 mph speed limit helped. I had two choices of routes to take. I could head north through Chicago and drive through Wisconsin or I could shoot across 80 into Iowa and then head north up to Sioux Falls. They were both the same mileage so I decided to stay on 80. I just went straight through Indiana and Illinois.
The trip started to get long once I passed Chicago. I think it was because the speed limit went from 70 to 55. Everything slowed down exponentially. It seemed like forever for the speed limit to get back to 65 at least. I didn’t speed either. The most I went was 5 mph over. I have cruise control and that was quite lovely.
I purchased a book on audio called “Radical” by Platt. It’s an amazing book. Platt takes a hard look at the some of the harder sayings and commands of Jesus in the gospels. He shows that Jesus said these things to show the cost of discipleship and what it means to truly follow him. Everyone likes Jesus’s love and peace message but when He says to take up your cross and follow him or that your family will hate you because of Him, well, we overlook that. Platt brings it all together in a compelling and exciting call to express your faith beyond the comfy confines of our American middle-class existence.
I was done with the book by the time I got to Iowa. I was in Iowa for what seemed like forever. I drove across the state and then made an immediate turn north. It was dark by then. Not a lot to see. I can’t wait to take the trip back in daylight. I need to get more pics.
I got to Chris’s around 3:30 am EST. I had some issues finding his street in Sioux Falls. My directions were pretty good until I got into the city. That was upsetting. I finally found his street. Chris let me in. We said hello and then he went back to bed.
I’m exhausted. It was a good trip.
