I'll be honest. I haven't watched a full game on the Browns this year. I used to watch every game. Priorities in life have led me to the decision that It's better use of my time to make a difference. The Browns are still my team though. I still wear my Browns gear in public even when it's probably better to give it to goodwill. I'll pay to see a game. I just don't have the time to invest every watching them every Sunday.
I've seen and read enough to have a few thoughts of this years team. These conclusions are the reason I'm not writing the Browns off and looking to root for another team.
They are getting betterTheir record and the teams they have beat may not reflect that. It makes it easy to overlook when the offense is still atrocious. But the Browns are getting better. In the last two years GM Tom Heckert has drafted defense and it has paid off. Last year is was CB Joe Haden and Safety TJ Ward. That solidified the secondary. This year the Browns drafted Jabaal Sheard. Both have been paying off. The Browns have been lacking good consecutive drafts and so far it looks like Heckert is making that happen. Now if he can do that with the offensive side of the ball.
Their are no playmakersI don't see how any defender could be afraid of the Browns wide receivers. I don't see anyone on offense that any defender should be afraid of. Peyton Hillis is injured. He is probably the only one worth thinking twice about. A weak offense leads to really boring games...and losses.
Colt McCoy and the Offensive LineIt seems like McCoy and the Offensive Line have regressed. Every time I see McCoy he is running for his life. The right side of the line is virtually non existent. You know you have a good O-Line when you don't hear anything about them. I've heard Alex Mack and Tony Pasho's name way too many times.
The Browns are not going to do anything this year. I'm content with that. But I do see a team with strong building blocks defensively. If they can get playmakers on offense or at least get the ball to potential playmakers then the Browns may have a chance.
