Track & Field...
I went to the 3rd Annual ASICS Comet Clinic yesterday. It's a track and field clinic held at my old high school. One of my friends spoke at the high jump/long jump seminar. I was interested in the sprints.
The 100 meter/200 meter seminar was excellent. I had no idea how much information I had lost. I took a lot of notes. Now I can adjust my blocks back to where they are and focus on the different phases of my race the way I'm supposed to.
I went to the 400 meter seminar and wasn't impressed. Mainly because the guy speaking was a distance runner and not a true 400 meter sprinter. Distance folk tend to be into that focus/mental toughness/touchy feely stuff. Sprinters already have that embedded into their psyche. We like to sweat the details because one small detail can mean 10ths of a second from first to second. So except for some new ab/core exercises I learned nothing.
There was a large turn out. I was impressed. There was a plyometrics seminar and shot put/discuss seminar. The clinic covered pretty much everything you need for track and field.
I'm definitely going to go next year. Even as an older track athlete I learned something that will help me be a better sprinter.
